Space Marshals 3 – Status Update

(updated) Space Marshals 3 – 1.2.0 update is now out on iOS.

I wanted to start by saying thank you for all the awesome feedback! Both good and critical. We’re hard at work trying to remedy the newly discovered issues and get the game up and running smoothly for everyone.

There is a new game update out on Android fixing some of the issues and we are submitting the iOS update today hoping to get it out very soon. See below for more details.

Here’s the status update of some of the most common issues:

ISSUE #1: The graphics don’t look crisp on older devices
There is a new “low graphics detail” coming very soon out now on iOS and Android. Let’s call it a “retro mode”. It uses some rendering techniques similar to Space Marshals 2 and will be able to run at a higher resolution on older devices.

ISSUE #2: (iOS) Poor performance on iPhone 12
Unfortunately this seems to be a tricky one and is not only affecting Space Marshals 3. We are investigating what we can do. Reportedly the latest iOS update improves the performance slightly. Also, enablabling screen recording in the OS seems to let the game run smoothly.

ISSUE #3: (iOS) Crash on the takedown of Gavin in the tutorial.
There are two different crashes here, both are related to Game Center and are very rare.

The first only occurs on iOS 13 and happens when the OS displays the achievement notification banner. The next update will disable achievement notifications on iOS 13 to avoid this. In the meantime it may help to sign out of Game Center.

The second crash only occurs on iOS 14. We have reports that signing out and then signing in again on Game Center will resolve the issue. There is a potential fix incoming in the next game update.

ISSUE #4: (Android) Graphics are mostly black.
There is an issue on devices with Snapdragon 845 specifically. (835 and 855 not affected)

Switching to low detail graphics in the latest game update fixes the issue. We are investigating for a fix to allow higher detail settings to work properly.

ISSUE #5: (Android) Crash during load on some devices
We have optimized the memory usage in the latest game update which should allow the game to run on devices with lower available memory.

    Hallo, der Google play store sagt diese Version sei nicht mit meinem Gerät kompatibel. Ich habe ein Huawei Y6. Gibt es noch hoffnung für mich?

        Das is doch scheisse, das hätte man doch vorher erwähnen können. Naja Teil 1 und 2 sind trotzdem Premium elite games. Ich habe bis jetzt nichts besseres auf einem Smartphone gespielt. Echt Weltklasse. Alles absolut ernst gemeint!

    Please fix the google log in issue. I’ve tried everything from reinstalling to clearing data and cache and nothing’s working. I’ve bought the first chapter and want to finish it to a 100% before the next chapter is out but since I cannot login and restore my purchase I’ve been unable to play anything but the first two missions. I don’t have any issues with graphics but just the login. I’ve sent you a mail as well and I was hoping this update fixed it but the only difference is that before it was logged in but didn’t recognize that I had purchased the first chapter. Not it’s not logged in and doesn’t despite my numerous attempts. I’ve sent a mail to you team with my purchase details as well as video of the issue. If you require any further details please contact me. I’m a huge fan and I don’t want to regret my trust. Thank you.

      The iOS version is still awaiting review – hopefully we can get it out before the weekend. Apple TV version got reviewed and approved last night.

      It will take a long time. To be able to release the game in mainland China now we need to find a reliable publisher and get the government to approve the game. As a reference – Space Marshals 2 still is not approved for release in China on Android…

    Still a bit laggy and the graphics not very crisp on snapdragon 865

    The graphic on my ipad still look not sharp compare to space marshals 2. Why? Even after update.

      Im using IPad 2017. So it should support or not for the graphic.?

        We’ve discovered and fixed an issue that limited the resolution range on “older” iPads. iPad 2017 was the newest device on that list.

        The next update (1.3.1) will allow you to increase the resolution further. It’s just awaiting for approval to be released and we’re estimating to have it out on the store tomorrow (20/11).

      May I ask if you have you switched to Low graphics detail and set up the resolution to 100% in the options menu?

      It is not guaranteed to change the settings automatically if you already played the game before the patch.

    Thanks for the update. I’m sure you’re working hard over there. With the graphics issue, I suppose my only gripe would be the resolution. In the game screenshots on the Apple Store it looks the same as SM2, but in game even with detail level lowest and resolution 100 it does not look the same. The game is fully playable and the graphic do have a certain feel to it if it is intentional, but I’m just a little confused on how my device can run SM2 fine but not SM3. Do you know which device can run SM3 with its trailer-level graphics?

      May I ask which device you are running on? There was a device specific scaling on top of the slider scale in the previous version. It should have been removed completely now. However, worth to double check if you are still having this issue.

      Personally I am running the game on an iPhone XS with max resolution and detail.

        I saw no device specific scaling before or after the update. I am using the Apple IPad generation 5 and played through all of the first chapter with max resolution and high detail level. There doesn’t seem to be any big difference between medium and high detail level. (I think your Captcha check might be broken…I entered 9 for 14-five and it said I was wrong).

            Awesome, thanks! Testing it out, the resolution is much better. Low detail level fixes the frame rate, but it is lower than previous SM games at higher detail levels (not really a problem). What exactly is the difference between high and medium detail levels though? P.S. while switching back and forth between different graphics levels quickly, the entire video just crashed. The music still played but the screen was filled with weird patterns of black and green. Restarting the app solves this, so I don’t really think it’s a problem either unless you’re toggling between menus really fast.

            The difference between High and Medium is mainly accuracy for various effects, such ambient occlusion, bloom, shadows.

    Thankfully, I haven’t had any issues, but Pixelbite has always been responsive to bug reports in the past.

    I’ve completed the first eight missions, and have been resisting burning through the first chapter in a short time, and having to wait longer for new chapters. SM3 carries on the fine tradition of SM1 and SM2, with improvements.

    However, I think that the game may be too easy! Especially with the availability of longer range weapons early on.

    I see that the star rating system is an attempt to mitigate the effect from having too powerful an arsenal, but still, I would welcome more of a challenge in general.

    Yes, as a SM veteran, I’d like the game to be harder!

      The plan is a to crank up the difficulty a little in the later chapters. Especially the gear score challenges.

    Please make Space Marshsls 3 available for iOS 12.4.7 latest Firmware for iPadAir !!! Sure there’s a lot of users out there with older devices not able or willing to buy a new device

    Hi,
    I just realised that both my iphone and ipad only support iOS versions up to 12, the SM3 requires iOS13. Is there a way to make the game available for iOS12? Appreciate it might not be easy / possible but wanted to ask, before having to buy a new iphone – been a long time fan of the series.

      Unfortunately, we cannot lower the OS requirement, due to performance requirements and old quirks in the older OSes we rather avoid. Still with the iOS 13 requirement the game supports devices that are 6 years old.

    All I just wanted to say is thank you so much for the time, dedication and effort you put into the your games dear Pixelbite! The level of design is astronomically out of this world! I have already memorized the 10 current chapters of Space Marshals 3.

    All I wish is for a higher difficulty, just give those frustrating levels to us! And new guns as well please!

    Is there a confirmed number chapters? Or will chapter 2 be the last? Will Ava or even Gavin get their own story lines? Just give us more Pixelbite! I absolutely love your games!

      The plan right now is for 3 chapters in total for Space Marshals 3. The difficulty will ramp up a little in upcoming chapters, especially for gear challenges.

    Bought number 3 because I also have 1 and 2 on Nvidia Shield. Now I see that the shield is incompatible with 3. Will there be a fix in the near future? (Android TV compatibility?)

      We are working on getting approved for Android TV. The game is fully compatible.

    I’m sorry for being that guy, but I gotta ask. Will there be support for the Nintendo Switch in the near future? We know you guys have been on the fence up till now, has that changed? Like, is there an official statement? Why are you ignoring the Switch?

    Hi how to earn the best weapon? What do it mean by best gear rating 5

      (Good find! That is actually a typo. It is supposed to be “Gear Score”)
      When you are equipping your gear you can see your Gear Score in the top left of the screen. Each “star” on a piece of gear gives you +1 in Gear Score. To be eligible for the Gear Score Challenge rewards you need to keep it equal or below the limit (5). I hope that helps!

    Just purchased the game and so far I have not encountered any problems. Levels are a bit short but otherwise very entertaining. Completed 3 levels so far.

    Does these games support game controllers? I’m playing it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab s7 Plus and I think a game controller will be much more intuitive.

      Yes, the game supports controllers on both iOS and Android.
